We are in the source area for the Havel and Peene rivers. The Havel flows to Berlin and the Peene flows to the Baltic Sea. The settlement of the village of Kargow and Federow go back to the 13th century. Numerous bronze-age hill graves refer to a substantially earlier permanent settlement. The municipality of Kargow has existed in it's current form since 1960. The Mueritz national park and their visitors have dramatically changed our municipality.
Tourism continues to develop as an industry. But, agriculture is still our main industry. Today there are four agricultural operations and some other medium-size enterprises.
In Federow can be found the information building. It was opened in April 1998 and becomes the starting point for exploring the Mueritz National Park.
A parking lot is available for use, which has approximately 60 parking bays. From there one can walk or with a bicycle discover the beautiful landscape. In the area of the information building are a zoo and playground for the smaller visitors.
At the Federow-Schwarzenhof road is an observation tower for an eagle refuge. In order to not disturb the birth and raising of the young animals by visitor traffic, a camera was installed in February 1999. This enables live observation of the fish eagles in the information building in Federow. If the eagle refuge is not filled, the possibility exists of looking at video footage from the previous year.

Schwarzenhof with the Kranichrast national park hotel is the starting point for many interesting excursions.
The village of Speck is surrounded by forests, lakes and moorlands. Beside the old blacksmith, today's national park information, the hunting seat and the agricultural worker houses, also is the 300 year old Specker jug and a small church which was built 1876/77.
A wonderful panorama is available at a 35m high observation tower on the Kaeflings mountain for our visitors going on to Speck.
By railway connections are Waren-Rostock, Neustrelitz-Berlin, as well as the Autobahn (Waren branch) and then B192 it is easy to reach the area.

We want you to experience our wonderful nature.
