From "Centennial History of Clark County, South Dakota 1881-1981":
H.F. Heiden - Darlington Township
Henry F. and Elizabeth Heiden moved here in 1904 from Iowa.
Mr. Heiden's brothers-in-law, Henry Bartle and C.C. Pfaffle,
had come earlier and it was due to their good reports that the
Heidens decided to come. They brought with them a family of
four: Pearl, born in 1891, married Henry Clausen and they
farmed on the Gilbert place in Section 12 until they moved to
Watertown. Pearl passed away in 1941. Lloyd was born in, 1896,
Mildred in 1897, and Roy in 1899. Mildred is now Mrs. John
Dunlop and lives in Watertown. Lloyd died in 1970 and Roy is
retired and lives in Clark.
The Heidens first lived on the Minnie Bail farm five years
until they bought the home place in 1909 and built the buildings.
The land was purchased from Syle Barber who had had a small
house and barn north of where the Heiden buildings were put up.
A patent for homestead was granted in 1889 to Silas A. Barber.
In 1920 Henry quit farming and turned it over to his sons. He
and Mrs. Heiden moved to Watertown where they lived until
their deaths, his in 1925 and hers in 1935.
Lloyd married Evelyn Kilmer, sister of Mae Schulz of Clark.
They farmed here until 1935 when they moved to a farm in
Washington Township.
Roy was married to Thonata Olson and they stayed on the
home place. They had three children: Roberta married Allen
Smith of Raymond, Velma married Leo Bachman of Clark, and
Darrel married Lois Johnson of Raymond and farms north of
Clark.
Roy left the farm in 1944 after his wife's death. He now lives in
Clark.
